LGA 2011

According to a very-recent post over at X-bit Labs, Intel’s upcoming X79 chipset will offer support for not only Sandy Bridge-E’s LGA 2011 socket, but also Intel’s existing enthusiast socket, LGA 1366. Keep in mind that this is chipset compatibility and not socket compatibility.

Last week we published an article regarding ASUS’ Project Danshui Bay motherboard, which features both a LGA 1366 socket and the upcoming LGA 2011 socket. This seemed very bizarre, and still does, but the folks over at 4Gamer.net have posted more images including one that provides a nice overview of the boards’ layout.

Let’s file this one under bizarre. Right now, if you are an enthusiast looking for a dual-CPU motherboard you would look no further than EVGA’s phenomenal SR-2. Computex 2011 is upon us and the folks at Tweakers have provided us with a close up of Intel’s next-generation enthusiast-oriented socket, LGA 2011. The LGA 2011 socket will be appearing on motherboards sporting Intel’s X79 chipset which will be launching alongside Intel’s Sandy Bridge-E line of enthusiast processors in Q4 of 2011.

While Intel’s successor to their Nehalem platform is still at least six months away, the folks over at Computer Base have leaked a couple of classified Intel slides that provide details on the upcoming Romley platform, featuring Sandy Bridge-E processors.
